A friend of mine spent her entire working life in cancer research at multiple pharmaceutical companies. She shared a story of one of those typical "all hands" meetings - one that held a surprise. A woman walked in the room and up to the microphone, and shared how this company's cancer treatments saved her life. Every day, these employees worked with data - but that day, they were reminded of why. Needless to say, it was a powerful and highly motivating meeting.

In my way of thinking, human connection is more than important - it is everything.

This is it, exactly, Cathy. That woman could have talked about all of the data BEHIND the life saving cancer treatment she received, and there would have been no story there. Because she made it personal, because the story was about HER being saved by their cancer treatments, the data all of a sudden took on a different level of import, a more human level. What's interesting is often not the thing itself, its the person behind the thing, and that's what I want to get at.

Yes, good stuff here. I’ve read the same about a being/having a "brand" - it's the person behind the brand that makes it what it is, not the product.

I think that's why I've always struggled to have a "brand', honestly. I've never figured out how to share me, the person behind the work, in a way that feels both authentic and consistent. LIke, I'm a hot mess somedays and a thoughtful, introspective genius others. How do you represent that with 3 colors and a font? 🤣

I’m right there with you on, “I've never figured out how to share me, the person behind the work”.

Good question…I’ll let that swirl around for a bit. xx
